Meanwhile, the rich accumulated more and more assets and in particular invested in assets backed by loans to the poor and the middle class.
Yes, but that doesn’t do away with the points made in the article. The article points out how it works, but no one said we have a perfect system. I agree with the flat tax that would open up a potential for growth that would have a ripple effect for good on the economy. The answer is definitely not to take more money out of a system that has historically thrived on the ability to control it’s own private property (money) under the law. If we take the fuel of money out of that system, the government will do what it wants with that money, which in turn creates a feedback loop that makes the government look better and the private sector look worse even though this isn’t the case. So, now the government can make a case to take more money out of the very system the government has had to draw from to grow so big in the first place. It’s an unsustainable cycle.
Not to mention, money in the private sector is utilized under the law so that any corruption is prosecutable under the law. The government, on the other hand, can change the law anytime the law gets in the way, and use that money however it wants. Not to mention, any corporations with which the government may have an unholy alliance, will benefit from the governments unregulated ability to manipulate regulations and the law. So, do you really want to give this government more money, taken out of the hands of job creators and innovators under the law, and give it to a government that can and will manipulate the law and change regulations where it sees fit? I don’t.
